Dear HOC Parents and/or Guardians,

This month, our weekly lessons all have to do with family. We’ll discuss the different types of family that are present within our daily lives and how important they are to our personal growth.

“Treat your family like friends and your friends like family” -Proverb

How Can You Help?

In our world today, families come in all shapes and sizes which consist of a number of different people. We have blended families, adopted families, step-families, and friends whom we choose to make a part of our family. We also have school families, work families and organizational families when we belong to a team or a community group.

We’ll emphasize the importance of their blood-related family and that, in life, you’re their main support. Your child will learn that you, their immediate family, is the first and most important support for what is happening in their daily lives, but that we also have opportunities to be a part of other types of families. We want them to understand that they can be a part of a family in many different ways. For example, through their schools, martial arts class, sports affiliations and friendships. We’ll also emphasize that diversity amongst all family types helps establish culture and self-identity.

You can help support our lessons on family by speaking with your children about those you’re close to and consider family. Also, discuss the importance of family and that it can be established with a variety of people who impact their lives.

On a side note: We consider you and your children a part of our HOC family and are so grateful for the impact you have on us personally as well our school!
