I’ve had many people over the years mention to me that one of the things they love most about House of Champions and our people is the “Family Feel” and the importance we place on the Family. I couldn’t agree more…it is one of my favorite things as well! We love our HOC family members and we work hard for you to create opportunities to get together …to celebrate achievements, life, have fun and even in times of challenge…because they all make us stronger..as individuals and as a family! Being together in ALL times of life makes us more committed to each other and to our goals.
This past weekend was no different. So many of you, HOC friends and family, gathered together in support at the local Van Nuys Springbok Bar & Grill, to watch one of our spirited and talented fighters, Eddie Mendez, in his UFC debut on Fuel TV from Brazil. The pressure must have been high for Eddie, as he stepped into that cage, across the world from us. All the years of training, the recent months of increased mental and physical training…all leading up to that day, to fight against someone you had never met, in front of thousands of people, knowing millions were watching you on TV. NO pressure, right?!
Whether it was that incredible pressure, the competition’s ability, the fact that Eddie tripped (did he? didn’t he?)….one can argue ‘this or that’ but in the end, the “why” he did not come away with a victory, I believe, is beside the point. We all know, you cannot have victories without losses. As you go through every experience in your career as a fighter (and in life, really), you learn, you try different techniques, get better at others, train hard, mentally prepare…and you get in that cage again. As it is said “When you are a winner, you come back, no matter what happened the day before”.
Eddie is a man with Indomitable Will and, I know him, he will be back stronger than ever…in mind, body and spirit!
For those who may not have caught the wonderful article, video interview, photo spread etc on the front page of the Daily News paper (and online at their website)…here is a link to the article and the video interview. http://www.dailynews.com/sports/ci_23412808/ufc-fighter-eddie-mendez-only-time-will-tell
