Arjukenpo Karate
19 Years in Martial Arts

At the age of 5, I started my martial arts training at the Jet Center, under the instruction of Mark Parra and Jacov Bresler. I started competing in martial arts tournaments at the age of 6. Tournaments like the Long Beach Internationals, Las Vegas Internationals, and March Madness are just a few of the big tournaments I used to compete in. At 12 years of age, I began competing in local boxing and kick-boxing smokers. When I was 13 years old, my father Abraham Hernandez passed away and Sensei Mark Parra took me under his wing. Around the same time, I started helping out with the Saturday Martial Arts Program. In doing this, I found a passion for teaching. Seeing the progression of the kids and watching them grow gave me a certain feeling of accomplishment. Wow, I was making a difference! I received my Black Belt when I was 15 years old in Benny The Jet’s Ukidokan Karate under Shihan Mark Parra and I currently hold a rank of 3 rd Degree Black Belt in Arjukenpo. Now I teach 5 days a week, both Arjukenpo and kick-boxing, one of those days being completely devoted to my tournament team. I take them out to various tournaments to compete at least once a month.

Throughout the years, both teaching and taking martial arts has impacted my life tremendously. Teaching has not only helped me but also given me the strength to help others. Martial arts kept me out of trouble when I was young, and gave me the discipline to face the struggles of life.
